Speaker 1:

Six seconds in Jalen Carter spits in Dak Prescott's face. There's stuff coming out now. You know it's like the Zubruta film and all that, but the bottom line is asinine, stupid, disrespectful. In my opinion, just a dumb move. Big Apple, your shot.

Speaker 2:

There was a second spitter. Listen, I'm not gonna defend Jalen Carter. The key here is I mean, dak Prescott is the NFL's golden boy. This is all bullshit.

Speaker 1:

You're listening to Unmuted with Papa Mutes. Welcome to Papa Mutes, everybody. We are back inside the bird's nest with Big Apple, big Cannon. Chipper Scourge is in the mountains with Aaron Rodgers looking for darkness. He may join in, but right now we're going to go with Big Apple, big Cannon and Chipper Game one in the tank 24-20. Eagles win, ugly win. And it starts right at the beginning. Let's get right to it. Six seconds in, jalen Carter spits in Dak Prescott's face. There's stuff coming out now you know it's like the Zubruta film and all that. But the bottom line is asinine, stupid, disrespectful in my opinion, just a dumb move. Big Apple, your shots.

Speaker 2:

There was a second spitter. That's right. I'm not going to. I'm not going. I'm not gonna defend jalen carter, the. The key here is I mean, dak prescott is the nfl's golden boy. This is all bullshit. Um, you know he, he taunted him. Jalen has to be a bigger man. But he's a young guy, he has his troubled past, he has some anger issues and he needs to grow, grow up.

Speaker 2:

I think the eagles should find him heavily, if they can. Internally. I think he knows what he did for the team. He put his team in a really bad position in the game. But I will say the silver lining is his replacement, who was going to be a rotational player in jordan davis skinny. Jordan davis looked phenomenal and he was extremely effective, extremely efficient, making plays in the run game, making plays in um the past game, and he would have had a sack that if he made that tackle, but otherwise he was unbelievable. So you know it was a disgusting start to the game. It cost us a touchdown, basically because they didn't adjust on the fly. I thought Vic did a great job in the second half, running the stunts, bringing jihad into this in there and having them loop around and making the plays and we'll get the jihad. But um you know, I'll stop there. Disgusting, no excuse for it. But dak prescott's such a loser big cannon papa mutes.

Speaker 3:

There's a jersey that I'm wearing specifically for the pod here today and that is Jalen Carter's jersey. I agree with Big Apple. There is a second spitter and, by the way, the thing is like when you watch Dak, he spits. Now Dak says, oh, I just you know, I had to spit. He spits, and then he gives Jalen Carter the head nod as in to say that's for you. Now, granted, should he have spit on him? No, absolutely not. As a matter of fact, I will tell you this At halftime I called my house to ask my parents if they were watching the game, what their thoughts were, and my mom was so upset that she thought that we should trade Jalen Carter.

Speaker 3:

I said he's the best player on the defense. My mom said doesn't matter, he has a character flaw. So I mean it was certainly upsetting what he did. And I will say this because people are like jumping down Jalen Carter's throat, like I've seen tweets today like oh, this is why he fell to nine. The last two years he's had no like issues. People thought he was going to have major off-the-field issues. Has not had those issues. He plays with an edge.

Speaker 1:

Make my day.

Speaker 3:

The team is an emotional team. Team wants the players to play emotionally um, so obviously do you want to spit. Absolutely not big mistake on his part, I agree I mean it's, but people were saying, oh, he needs to get the suspension, like it was all over. I think you know yeah, there's.

Speaker 2:

There is no precedent for a player who was suspended in-game to getting a second game in the NFL. It just hasn't happened. It would be insane.

Speaker 1:

I'm not saying that the Eagles couldn't do something. Right? Well, that's why I'm going to go to Seriani now. Nick, coach, what is your? You know? Whether you agree or not, I think we all agree. Dumb thing, you don't spit on someone. But what's your discipline? What's your move? If you're Coach Seriani, what do you do?

Speaker 4:

Yeah, complete knucklehead. I would lay down the hammer. I mean, the good thing is, this happened week one, first game of the season. You got 10 days now for the third-night game. I would and this isn't my original take I would suspend him for the Kansas City game. To send a message Wow, because I mean you're living in the present too much if you think that this is not. It sends no message. To give him the right act in the locker room to make him apologize in front of his team. He's not going to learn anything from that. You lose to Kansas City next week without Jalen Carter, it's fine. It's a long season. In the long run, I think it's better for him and it's better for the team. And if you win, then hey, you just won without your guy. You're not going to get away with everything and then come back. I actually would suspend him for the next game, regardless of what the NFL does.

Speaker 1:

Wow, I'm thinking a half, sit him for a half.

Speaker 4:

What does that do?

Speaker 1:

I don't know. It's tough, you're too important.

Speaker 4:

We don't want to spend you for the whole game. We're just going to tiptoe around you and we're going to virtue signal that we care that you spit on Dak Prescott. I will say Dak is kind of a swarmy move, but it's a savvy QB move. You could imagine aaron rogers doing the same thing. Or you can even imagine like tom brady, like baiting a guy who he knows is odd ed and and that's exactly what he did.

Speaker 1:

So I will say, I saw like it's not.

Speaker 4:

He's not the only quarterback who would do that to jaylen carter and you'd be foolish to think that other quarterbacks are going to know that. Other players are going to know that and they're going to beat him and Big Ten. I actually disagree. I think Jalen Carter has just not gotten caught doing some knucklehead things in the past. He is like cold cocked guys and they caught it after the fact and we don't. He just hasn't gotten in trouble for it yet.

Speaker 1:

I mean, I saw the overhead shot and they didn't look too close when Prescott did the so-called spit. But when you get the long lens and it's shooting straight on, he looks closer, it's not about the spit, though.

Speaker 3:

It's about the head nod afterwards, oh yeah.

Speaker 1:

I think if you watch, yeah, that's true, he baited him.

Speaker 4:

He spits and it's like but why did he bait him? Because he knows that he's a hothead? Yeah, that's true. Football is an intense game Like you can get caught in the moment. They didn't play a snap yet, like there was nothing to be trippy about. I don't.

Speaker 1:

How about concerns in general after game one Big Cannon, do you have any concerns? I mean, it wasn't, you know, it was a weird game. Do you have any concerns now going against Kansas City?

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, I mean we had. I mean we had. I mean, think about our last pot, right, we talked about what are the, what are the concerns that we have? Right, it's that cornerback two spot was one of the big concerns. And the safety spot, the cornerback two spot, adore Jackson sucked. How many plays did you see where number eight was trailing CeeDee Lamb? Right and let's be honest here, ceedee Lamb thank God he dropped some balls, right, because if he didn't, I think we'd be in big trouble. We might be talking about a loss here. But Dory Jackson completely sucked.

Speaker 3:

I actually thought that the and then again our safety, cindy Brown, who we were concerned about, got banged up. I mean, part of that is just like he's just someone that does get banged up. I will say this I think the Cuba, when he came in, uh, I actually thought he looked like very good for his his first, uh, live NFL game here. But that would be my big concern to just be like that cornerback to spot, like what the hell is happening with that spot moving forward, because I think adori jackson, I think when he was targeted seven times he gave up five receptions for over 100 yards. It didn't look pretty, I mean, um, so we'll have to see this next game. I think it'll be very telling to see who this the starting qb2 is or cb2 is. But yeah, I mean that was my big concern there. We had it through training camp and then he went out there and it completely sucked big apple concerns, if any, I mean, yeah, I share the similar concerns on the cb2.

Speaker 2:

I think the eagles did a good job identifying today that they need help on a depth in the edge and they signed Ladarius Smith or whatever his name is, ladarius, yeah, and he's I mean, he's still productive. At his older age he was a three-time, all pro guy type guy, three-time pro bowler. He had a good year for Detroit. He helped them when they needed depth. I think that's a good signing, identifying that we need some help there. Today, I think the CB2 position is going to be Ja'Cory Bennett, identifying that we need some help there. Today, I think the CB2 position is going to be Ja'Cory Bennett. I think it has to be. I mean, honestly, I think they should take Dory and, you know, just cut him today. He was god-awful, he was low-grade dog shit out there. He was the worst player on the field by a mile. But I mean all these things saying is I mean Dallas has a very solid receiving core. I mean you're playing next week against Kansas city who has not a good receiving core strength in the middle of the field, and of course we got Cooper Dijon there. And then, you know, xavier worthy probably is going to be banged up. He just went out earlier this game hot off the press with a shoulder injury. So they're down to Hollywood Brown and an old Juju Smith-Suster and you know Adore Jackson could cover them. So it's you know. Think about last year when we were. You know Vic gets his hands on these guys, sees what they can do.

Speaker 2:

The Eagles clearly knew they needed to upgrade CB2, so they brought in Bennett and you know we're going to be going into next week. You got some time. You know we're going to be going into next week. You got some time. You know it's going to be a three-, four-week project. But I will say before we get into what Chip thinks is you know, the best player on the field last night was Jalen Hurts, and it's not even a question, and that is what's shown through to me is that we have a guy who can game, manage and run this thing, and that's the most important thing.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I, that's the most important thing. Yeah, I mean he only threw for 152 yards, 62 rushing, but ran for two. So it's not like wow numbers, but got the job done.

Speaker 2:

It's never going to be the bottom line.

Speaker 2:

It's never going to be he. He is so intelligent the ball comes out when it needed to go out. He. He attacked the middle of the field because they were running press coverage. You look at the all-22 today. I was looking at it all day and these guys weren't open. I mean you got two of the best receivers in the league and they just were not open. He missed maybe one or two plays to AJ and the scheme. I'm a little more concerned with what Batula's running on those route trees. But again, I mean Jalen looked off his first read, moved to the second, to the middle of the field, took the yards that were there and got every play whenever we needed it, no question, feet or throwing. It's a perfect game.

Speaker 1:

Chipper. You mentioned Petula. This is his first OC job, so to speak. What's the grade you give him for the offensive coordinator?

Speaker 4:

I was thinking he praised in the first half half. I thought the offense looked really crisp and I thought it looked more creative than it did last year. I thought we got got it involved a lot, which was great, and we uh put the ball in the middle of the field which we struggled at last year.

Speaker 4:

All those things were good. And the run game we did some tricky things to get saquon some opportunities. Uh, I'm thinking of particularly that third down play, uh, where we had counter motion to the right and then pitch back left, like it's just a creative way to get him the ball in space. Uh. Second half though I don't know if it was he played too conservative, um, because we did have the lead, but I thought we got away from some of the things that worked the first half. It actually kind of reminded me of an old Andy Reid-era game where we come out first 15 scripted, we look great and then there's no adjustments during the game. So that's a little bit concerning on that front.

Speaker 4:

But my grade for opening day for Petula is like a B+. I was pretty satisfied. The Dickerson injury was part of the reason why we started to falter in the second half. He was getting blown off the ball. He wasn't like a lot of those run plays were his fault and it's because he had no back, I guess, which I'm more concerned than big big Apple is.

Speaker 3:

Maybe it's Embiid post traumatic stress with the back, but I don't think it's a good, I'll say here, which is like he has a little bit of like the Jason Peters syndrome where, if you guys remember, there was a year where, like, jason Peters started 14 games but then like left the game 16 times.

Speaker 3:

Like he's one of those guys where it's just like it looks like his left leg has fallen off and then he leaves the field. You're like he's done, and then he comes back Like I kind of think that that's kind of it's not as bad as Jasonason peters. Yet no, no, no, it's not.

Speaker 4:

But I'm saying yes every play every play getting off the pile, you're like, is he dead? Is he, is he gonna come back?

Speaker 1:

but previous podcast we were talking about the kansas city game, which is, you know, the next game. Um, everybody, I think, agreed they're gonna win some blowout, some a little closer. But, chipper, you were on the fence and hanging an L. Do you still feel that way? Don't go off on that.

Speaker 4:

No, I'm actually feeling it. Maybe I might reverse course. I was very pleased with what I saw last night. My biggest concern is Dickerson. I think that the Adore Jackson thing is a little bit overblown. It's the first game. And I think that the Adory Jackson thing is a little bit overblown. It's the first game and, for what it's worth, quingen and Mitchell didn't look that good either. These are really good receivers on the Cowboys. It's the first game in the system. So I thought we looked good and by comparison, last year when we went to Sao Paulo to play the Packers, we also looked disgusting. And Jalen, I think, turned the ball over three times. I think turned the ball over three times. I think he fumbled and he had to get two interceptions, or was it four? Three, oh, it was three.

Speaker 4:

Yeah so he turned the ball over three times. We gave up 29 points, if memory serves me, but we still won the game in an ugly fashion, like when you don't play the preseason and this is Nick Sirianni's thing, because it's a longer season now and you don't want to get guys extra hits you're gonna look sloppy these first few games and I thought, all things considered, last night we looked good. Depending on what the chiefs look like tonight, I'm actually feeling pretty confident going into arrowhead next week, I think the chiefs?

Speaker 2:

the chiefs, look bad, they just do um. Well, good, I had my, you know my my takes um? I don't think they have. I mean, xavier Worthy out for the game is killer, so but I would rather them win. Come in confident. I mean I said we were going to hang a W on them. I still think it's true. We started at one-and-a-half point dogs. Today I think that's going to flip. I think we'll probably end up as a pick-em.

Speaker 4:

Last night. Let's remind us this Our defense gave up 20 points. We didn't give up a point in the second half and we didn't have our best player so like, and we were playing against a really good offense.

Speaker 3:

The Cowboys offense was really good still, I was just going to say when we think about the flow of the game, I want the flow of the game. I want to read something out to you guys here because it was a weird game. I'm going to read. Just read out here's how the drives went touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, field goal, touchdown, field goal. Halftime field goal, fumble, weather delay, punt, punt, punt, punt downs, end game. So I don't know if the defense was actually good last night or if something weird happened because both teams, after the weather delay, could not get their offense going at all. I think.

Speaker 2:

I think there's. I think the eagles have a lot of encouraging things that happened on defense, especially from our young guys. I thought makuba showed well he was where he was supposed to be. He might not have made some banger plays, but I thought Jahad Campbell was incredible. I mean someone who can cover a skinny post like that in coverage for sure athleticism was unbelievable and he was making tackles behind the backfield.

Speaker 2:

He was all over the ball. He forced the fumble. I mean, this is a guy we didn't think we're gonna have for week one. And we have him and he's productive. Him and zach bond, these are two guys who can run four or five forties. And you saw zach bond save the game, basically by catching miles sanders, and then the next play was the forced fumble. That was a game changer.

Speaker 2:

I mean this is these are insanely athletic linebackers that the eagles haven't seen ever in my lifetime well, yeah, bond was all over the field again.

Speaker 4:

I mean, campbell looked great. Bond looked like the same all pro we saw all last season, which was encouraging. He wasn't just a flash in the pan and you got a solid center there. You're gonna get your best. Hopefully j Jalen Carter back, even though I want to suspend him next game. Your middle is going to be shored up. If you got one weak spot at corner, you got every other position covered and it looks good, and I think McCougar looked good too.

Speaker 2:

I just think I mean it's going to flow into the game plan for the offense they're just going to like last night Jalen knew hey. Night Jalen knew he, hey, I got to score every drive here because our corners are getting toasted. And it's the same thing when you play a team like the Rams who have two good wide receivers or someone else who's two good wide receivers. But if you're playing a team with one receiver who's hobbled or it's just a quarterback, I'm not concerned. So Kansas City doesn't do it for me. I mean the Cowboys are tough out. I mean it's a divisional game with a with an allpro wide receiver, a quarterback who puts up crazy regular season merchant, and you know they're good up in the front seven. They are. I mean, as much as I want to say they're not, they are and they have a good corner secondary. They just have no linebackers, those guys can't tackle the shit.

Speaker 1:

Jake Elliott driving with a 55-yarder straight down the center.

Speaker 3:

That was good to see honestly Last year sucked.

Speaker 4:

Of all the new bad rules in the NFL, that's the worst one. That K-ball that they're giving the kickers before they're going to be making 60 yards all year You're going to get to the 50 yard line and Brandon Aubrey's going to be kicking straight through the uprights.

Speaker 1:

I understand what the K-ball is, but what's different this year?

Speaker 4:

They used to only get it 45 minutes before the game, from what I understand, and that's a big deal for kickers because they need to know the feel, or whatever.

Speaker 4:

And 45 minutes isn't all that much to get a feel of the ball. Now they get the ball indefinitely, from what I understand. So they're practicing with this ball, they're doing whatever with this ball, they're very comfortable with it. Roger wants more points, he wants more field goals. It doesn't make any sense. They've got to change that. I'm telling you it's going to be an issue. That's my call, but what?

Speaker 3:

about. I mean top of view. It's not to derail us at all, but what about the new taunting rules that were debuted last night with the Nolan Smith? He gets the big tackle for the loss, talks a little smack and then it's 15-yard penalty. I thought that was completely egregious. Again, I guess the NFL, I feel like, just loves to make little rule changes like this to get us all talking about it, but I thought that was crazy egregious last night. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

It's America's team, andrew, they're going to give Cowboys. I mean it was classic, I mean that was bare, I mean that was nothing, nothing.

Speaker 1:

It's a good play too.

Speaker 4:

It stinks. Now he's not getting the shine for a really good play.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and then next week, you know, chipper said maybe a ref show. I don't know, we'll see.

Speaker 4:

I'm nervous.

Speaker 3:

I think it's going to be close next week, I think it's going to be, I think, my revised pick Exactly, I think revised pick will be 27-24 birds.

Speaker 2:

But they don't have the roster. I'll say it again they don't.

Speaker 1:

And Travis is soft.

Speaker 3:

He's softer than dog shit in the rain, Papa Mew.

Speaker 1:

Let's put a wrap on this Next week. Are we all confident that we beat Kansas City? I know Chipper's on the fence, but I want the truth.

Speaker 4:

You can't handle the truth. I'm in. I think that we're going to win Score prediction 31-17.

Speaker 1:

Ooh, all right, big cannon Score. I think it right, big cannon.

Speaker 3:

Score. I think it's 27-24. I think the Eagles can't resist being a little dramatic. We're going to be sweating it. I do think that Hurts comes in, gets us the late drive there for the field goal to break the tie.

Speaker 1:

I like it. I like it Big.

Speaker 2:

Apple. Oh man, I don't see them being able to score much on us. Give me 28- 16.

Speaker 1:

Alright.

Speaker 2:

I'm going to go 32 21.

Speaker 3:

They're going to scheme some stuff up that's going to put Dory Jackson in a tough situation. They're going to be making him choose. They're going to be making him choose. They're going to be making him think hard next week and I get concerned about that. The scheming of the game plan for next week against the defense.

Speaker 2:

If I know my Italian brother, Vic Fangio, I'm going to tell you Adore Jackson is going to see less than 20% of the snaps next week. He's done.

Speaker 1:

That's what.

Speaker 2:

I hope.

Speaker 1:

Who are you putting in?

Speaker 2:

Bennett yeah, ja'cory Bennett. And then you get to help with Cooper DeGene on the outside and you got to let Q run. They don't have enough on the outside. They're not going to beat us that way.

Speaker 1:

Well, let's say they do sit Jalen Carter. I mean, how much of a swing is that for Kansas City?

Speaker 2:

I mean, how much of a swing is that for Kansas?

Speaker 1:

City.

Speaker 2:

I mean, that's a big Isaiah Pacheco is a good runner and they're not bad interior.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, it's a big loss. I don't think it's insurmountable, but it's a big loss. You also saw like in terms of the pass pressure last night, like I was a little bit unimpressed by Jalex Hahn and I actually thought I would see more out of Nolan Smith on the pass rush, especially when he got one-on-ones. But hey, first game.

Speaker 2:

Uche was good. Jordan Davis was good. I agree. Jalex Hunt was bad. He wasn't good. I bet you the first pass of the game is to AJ Brown. It's the same playbook they did.

Speaker 4:

when Devontae Smith got zero pitch, the same playbook they did with davante smith going for nothing.

Speaker 2:

The big apple gambling corner pick of the week all aj overs okay, bet the house what I was gonna say before.

Speaker 3:

Like I think it's important to emphasize this before we jump off here. Big apple brought this up at the beginning of the podcast. How hurts looked last night was just total command. Like was making all the right plays with his legs. If you think about his even like I know he didn't pass for big yards but they were playing like zone coverage the whole time right, so like the passes he was making were the right plays and he was 19 for 23. Of those four incompletions, one was a drop, three were throwaways where he was like I just gotta get rid of the ball.

Speaker 3:

I thought that he was after seeing last night again, it's just one game, but after winning the super bowl, I'm wondering if we're gonna see like the most composed settle and settled in version of him that we've, that we've seen in his career and if the eagles have that, I mean we're talking about this offense can get to just another level settled in version of him that we've seen in his career. And if the Eagles have that, I mean we're talking about this offense can get to just another level here. So it can't go unsaid how good he looked last night with his decision making.

Speaker 1:

And MJ in the house.

Speaker 2:

He's decisive making the right reads and not turning the ball over. We're going to win a lot of games. That's flat out true.

Speaker 1:

There you go.

Speaker 3:

Their game plan was take away the run and Jalen drove the offense. He was the reason that we looked that good on offense was his decision-making, which I think is the most I mean this whole offseason has been like. How good is he if he's carried there by his team? And I think if anyone that watched that game would say he was the reason, he was the primary driver of the offense looking as good as it did, especially in that first half last night.

Speaker 1:

If you just look at the stats the next day you'd be like not too great. But if you watch the game you can see the greatness that he was projecting the pulleys.

Speaker 2:

Don't forget Jalen's 3-0 versus Spag's defenses. Don't forget italen's three and over spags defenses, don't forget it.

Speaker 3:

Sorry, not three. And oh, three great games.

Speaker 1:

I was gonna say, yeah, awesome, all right guys you have been listening to unmuted with papa mutes.
